Thorntons Investments staff raise vital funds for Cot Death Trust
Members of staff at the Dundee headquarters and Edinburgh office of wealth management firm Thorntons Investments have raised more than £1,300 for a charity which researches the causes of cot death and offers support to bereaved families.
The Scottish Cot Death Trust was founded in 1985 and is the only charity of its kind in Scotland dedicated to educating parents and professionals to reduce the risks and to helping grieving families. Every nine days in Scotland, a seemingly healthy baby dies suddenly and unexpectedly due to cot death, and many of these families will never know the reason why.
Generous Thorntons Investments staff raised money in their spare time and Investment Assistant Ashley Strachan raised over £600 alone by taking part in a skydive.
Matthew Brown, Head of Discretionary Portfolio Management at Thorntons Investments, said: “We’re proud to hand over our contribution to support the work of such a deserving cause. Everyone involved has kindly given up their own time to raise money and we’ve had some good fun along the way. The Scottish Cot Death Trust is close to my heart, having lost a niece five years ago, so I am extremely grateful to everyone at Thorntons Investments for their efforts.”
Marlene Graham, Fundraiser at the Trust said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as Thorntons Investments Charity of the Year in Dundee and we are so grateful to everyone who got involved by taking part in quizzes, eating chocolate and providing home baking. In particular, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Ashley Strachan who jumped out of a plane to support us. The total sum raised is an incredible £1315.40, which will help to make a huge difference to the lives of the families we support.”
