We’re a small but expanding team and our aim is ‘to be regarded as the best investment and financial planning business in the East of Scotland’.  Our home is Dundee, and we also have an office in Edinburgh.

  • Paraplanner – Thorntons Investments, Dundee

    We are looking for an experienced Paraplanner to join our Dundee team, supporting our Financial Planners alongside the administration support team.

    Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

    The post holder, as part of our Paraplanning team will –

    • assist our Financial Planners prepare for client meetings
    • attend client meetings where appropriate
    • produce research on behalf of Financial Planners
    • produce information, illustrations and product information for Financial Planners
    • assist in the review of clients’ existing investments, attitude to risk, asset allocation, etc.
    • produce cashflow forecasts, client review reports, suitability reports and other correspondence as required
    • use all company systems in line with laid down procedures
    • ensure all financial administration is conducted in accordance with the requirements of the FCA and internal procedures
    • maintain client records in line with company policy
    • maintain records of central research
    • assist in the development of our Trainee Paraplanner(s) as required

     

    Qualifications and Personal Development

    The post holder will ideally hold a Level 4 Financial Planning/Paraplanning qualification.  Further study to Chartered status will be encouraged.

    The cost of study materials and examinations will be funded in line with our Study Policy.

    In addition to the above qualifications, the post holder will commit to Continuous Personal Development, keeping knowledge up to date and retaining supporting records for review.

    Location

    We are based in two locations, our Dundee head office and in Edinburgh.  Our Paraplanning team is based in Dundee, but we will consider applications from suitable candidates who could work from our Edinburgh office.  From time to time, the post holder will need to attend meetings in other offices or other locations to suit client and or business demands.

    Apprentice (Business Support) – Financial Services

    Are you looking for your first step into a career within an office environment?

    Are you a friendly self-starter with a positive approach to tasks, no matter how big or how small?

    Are you keen to learn all aspects of financial services administration, and to make a real difference to our team?

    If so, we have what you’re looking for!

    We are offering a Modern Apprenticeship in Providing Financial Services. 

    What you’ll do:

    The role itself will report into our Admin Manager, working within our Business Support team on a wide range of administrative tasks.

    As an Apprentice, you’ll gain a fantastic insight and valuable skills as well as gaining an understanding of the financial services industry with an opportunity to spend time learning about other areas of our business.

    Our ideal candidate will:

    • be passionate about providing great customer service
    • be friendly and confident in dealing with a wide range of people over the telephone and face to face
    • be articulate with excellent written and spoken English
    • be a self-starter – using your own initiative to resolve issues and find answers so that you learn along the way
    • be determined to learn and develop new skills
    • be analytical and able to process numbers accurately
    • possess good general computer skills (MS Office)
    • be flexible – willing to tackle lots of different tasks and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines and expectations

     

    What we’ll provide:

    Earn as you learn with a starting salary of £10,000, a contributory pension, 25 holidays plus 9 public holidays each year, life assurance and a medical cash plan.

    You will receive support as you study towards an SVQ in Providing Financial Services (in conjunction with our chosen training provider) as well as lots of ‘on the job’ training and guidance.
