A Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, and with coveted Chartered Wealth Manager status, Matthew was a welcome addition to our team in 2016. With over 10 years of investment experience, working in both large and small organisations, most recently at Brewin Dolphin, Matthew manages portfolios for individuals, trusts and charities. Matthew enjoys working with clients to provide them with the best service throughout the different stages of their lifetime and as their goals and objectives change.
Something you didn’t know about Matthew:
At age 15, Matthew was a World Champion bagpiper as part of a Juvenile Pipeband.
Mantra: Do it today, life’s too short.
Jeremy has over 25 years of investment experience in small and large organisations, running his own investment management practice before joining Thorntons Investments in 2015. An Oxford University Mathematics graduate, Jeremy works within our Bespoke Discretionary Management Service and manages portfolios for private clients and trustees. Jeremy has extensive knowledge of selecting investment funds and drives this element of our Investment Management Committee’s research function.
Something you didn’t know about Jeremy:
Jeremy took up running shortly after his 50th birthday and has now completed several marathons and half-marathons in Scotland and his native Yorkshire. A lover of all things Greek and a passionate Tottenham Hotspur fan.
A Chartered Wealth Manager, Alasdair joined us in December 2017 and brings a broad mix of skills and experience to our portfolio management team. Alasdair has over ten years’ experience of managing and running private client portfolios, and has an excellent track record of asset allocation and stock and corporate bond selection. Alasdair most recently worked in London for Alder Investment Management, following a number of years with Deutsche Bank Private Wealth.
Something you didn’t know about Alasdair:
Alasdair is the reigning Elie 10km Champion. He is proud of this accolade, despite the fact the event no longer exists, having been replaced by the Elie Triathlon a number of years ago…
Gail joined Thorntons in 2019. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, Gail has over 25 years investment management experience. She spent 9 years at Brown Shipley managing portfolios for individual clients, trusts and charities, having previously worked with Lindsays.
Something you didn’t know about Gail:
Gail used to be a keen hill walker. Her most ambitious challenge was to trek the Inca Trail to the iconic Machu Picchu. These days she does well to tick another Munro off her list.
Sarah joined the team in August 2015 and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
Since joining the firm, Sarah’s commitment has seen her juggle a full time role and a busy family life with completing a University Degree in Business Studies before immediately going on to complete her CISI Level 4 Investment Advice Diploma. She is currently studying towards the CISI’s Level 7 Diploma in Wealth Management and is working towards attaining the coveted Chartered Wealth Manager status. To show Sarah our commitment to her ongoing training, in January 2020 she was promoted to Trainee Portfolio Manager. As a Trainee Portfolio Manager, Sarah works closely with the Portfolio Managers to expand her technical knowledge and client interaction. She is also involved in fund research and reviewing the ongoing suitability of client portfolios.
Something you didn’t know about Sarah:
Sarah is an in-school mentor with local charity Breakthrough Dundee who reach out to care-experienced and other young people who have, or are likely to, face significant challenges in their lives.
Sam joined Thorntons Investments from Barclays Bank in July 2019. Sam’s interest in the markets and all things financial began back in 2008 while running a beauty salon in Dundee where she spent a lot of time manning reception listening to clients fretting about the ‘credit crunch’, so much so it felt like hysteria. Sam felt compelled to understand what was going on and began to realise that the beauty industry wasn’t for her, and perhaps there was a more interesting opportunity afoot!
Sam initially joined Barclays as a cashier, and navigated her way from retail banking to the Wealth management team, where her interests lie.
To summarise Sam’s experience of joining Thorntons Investments – ‘It’s an absolute pleasure to work for a bespoke investment house based in my home town of Dundee and to continue learning from the incredible wealth (see what I did there) of knowledge in this office’.
Born and raised in Yorkshire, Sharon began her career in Financial services in 1987 when she left school to join General Accident. Three years later, Sharon joined Naafi Financial Services as a customer services adviser, working predominantly with military personnel and their families in North Yorkshire and overseas in Germany, rising to Team Leader and Branch Manager, before returning to Catterick Garrison running branches both in Yorkshire and the North of Scotland. A move with the military saw Sharon move to North East Fife 20 years ago where she became Office Manager at a small family firm of Financial Advisers. Sharon had a break from financial services to undertake a variety of roles, including a move to Portugal to carry out voluntary work, before returning to NE Fife and re-entering the industry, finally joining us in December 2019 as Portfolio Management Assistant.
